Understanding the Environmental Impact of F-Gases and PFAS Refrigerants

In recent years, the environmental hazards posed by fluorinated gases (F-gases) and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have come under increased scrutiny. F-Gases, such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), are widely used as refrigerants but are known to have a high global warming potential (GWP). For instance, R-410A, a commonly used HFC, has a GWP of approximately 2,088.

Air Blast Coolers:

Free Coolers:

Free Coolers use outdoor air to cool industrial process water. Cooled process water is then recirculated to industrial processes, reducing the need for mechanical refrigeration. These systems enhance energy efficiency and operational cost savings, decreasing energy consumption by as much as 80%.

Free Cooling Chillers and Process Chillers

Available in various gases, including R-410A and natural gases, these chillers are designed to leverage ambient temperature for cooling, significantly reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint. These chillers are ideal for applications where continuous cooling is required, offering reliable and efficient performance.

Thermo Chillers

Utilising the eco-friendly refrigerant gas R-513A, our thermo chillers are designed with integrated free cooling to maximise energy conservation. R-513A has a low GWP of 631, making it a more sustainable option compared to traditional refrigerants.

Small Precision Chillers

Our small precision chillers offer an eco-friendly alternative to R-407C, using R-513A, characterised by its low environmental impact. These chillers are perfect for applications requiring precise temperature control with minimal environmental impact.

Our Propane Natural Gas Chillers

Our most eco-friendly product, our ECO air-cooled liquid chillers are optimised to operate with propane (R-290), a natural hydrocarbon with a low GWP. These chillers meet HFC refrigerant regulations, such as the European “F-gas” regulation and also comply with the “Ecodesign” directive of EU regulation (EU) 2015/1095, which implements Directive 2009/125/EC.

Designed for outdoor installations, key components of these units include high-efficiency semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors, EC axial fans, and high-efficiency condensing coils and are tailored for industrial applications requiring medium temperature process cooling.

Acknowledging propane’s flammability, our units also incorporate crucial safety features, including robust refrigeration circuits, Atex-certified components, separate compartments for electrical panels, and gas detection systems.
